Port Adelaide CC is proud to host the opening round of the 2013 National Cyclo-Cross Series and FOCUS BIKES support events which gets under way in Adelaide on the June long weekend.  A host of Australia's best road and mountain bike riders have already confirmed for the second running of the exciting Series.

2012 Series winners Adrian Jackson and Lisa Jacobs are confirmed starters for the Series, along with reigning cross country national champion Peta Mullens and former national mountain bike champions Andrew Blair, Chris Jongewaard and Rowena Fry.

?It (2012) was fantastic and I am certain it is only going to get bigger and better,? Jackson remarked.

In a major coup, Australian road cycling legend Robbie McEwen has entered the Port Adelaide CC rounds of the Series, although the three-time Tour de France points jersey winner admitted he was attempting a low-key entry.

"Busted - did stealth entry for the rAdelaide round of #ncxs National Series CycloCross June 8 & 9 for fun, but must train now. #wordisout," McEwen joked on Twitter earlier this week.

Cyclo-cross, or CX as it's known, has a long history in the mud fields of Europe and has also seen spectacular growth across the world in the past few years, including Australia.

It provides an exciting alternative to road and mountain bike races because of the shorter courses and races, with riders also forced to tackle various terrains including pavement, grass, mud and sand, all while negotiating obstacles such as rocks, steps and logs.  The thrills, spills and mud provide great entertainment for competitors and spectators alike.

Volunteer

Port Adelaide CC is a 100% volunteer-run club and events can't happen without volunteers. Help is always welcome, if you have the time to volunteer. We need assistance with easy jobs like course set-up, rider sign-in, and corner marshalling. So if you don't think you can race, but want to be involved at the bleeding edge in our CX series, please put your name forward to us and join the PACC volunteering crew!
